- This posting is directed at people using 4Dos, Rexx, and
- Windows 95, but perhaps also those like myself who have used
- and enjoyed using an Amiga in the past. So please don't flame
- me all you Amiga users.
-
- -----------------------------
- I had a bout of nostalgia today. I found TakeCommand/32 for
- Windows95 / NT. It is a command processor for Windows,
- that gives you the power of 4DOS without the DOS window.
- The Nostalgia came after I was using it for a few minutes,
- it reminded me of the days when I was using an Amiga 1000.
- (Long time ago) I used the CLI (Command Line Interface) a lot.
- I remember very well the sense of power and control I got from
- using the CLI on the Amiga, nothing was impossible.
-
- I remember even better when I bought AREXX for that old Amiga.
- It was like christmas morning, finding a great gift, that you
- had never thought of before. Wondering how you go along without
- it before.
-
- The reason I am writing this message and cross posting it to
- such diverse groups, is that I want your opinion on the following
- idea.
-
- I am seeking input on the idea of combining TakeCommand/32 with
- a basic Rexx interpreter. If I get enough positive feedback
- then I could try and convince the developpers that it is a
- worthwhile project.
-
- Here are a list of features that I would like added to
- TakeCommand/32:
-
- - A least minimal Rexx capabilities, ala ARexx , with posiblities
- of adding more sophisticated functions with an upgrade. Here
- I am thinking of a pared down version of Personal Rexx/32 from
- Quercus.
-
- - Header files for the GNU C compiler, to let you
- target the TakeCommand/32 Shell for porting Unix utilities
- etc to Win/95 environment. What I want to know is if you
- consider TakeCommand/32 to be a worthwhile target for
- simple console I/O type applications. Would need publicly
- exposed API. (we could almost do away with the DOS windows.
-
- - Possibility of having high quality (ie 16 bit or better)
- graphics displayed in the console window ... a la Mathematica
- notebooks, i.e. scrollable and retreivable simply by scrolling
- back with slider.
-
- Here is a suggestion for the Rexx interpreter:
-
- - Make it as reliable, as easy to use and as flexible as
- the ARexx interpreter was for the Amiga.
-
- This whole package I would be willing to purchase at about
- $200.00 U.S. But only if a got most of the above mentionned
- features.
-
- So what do you think?
-
- P.S. I can't monitor the all the newsgoups that I post this
- to, so if you could also E-Mail me directly your replys
- I would like to compile the answers. Thanks
